We suspected tuberculosis in a person during a mission to de-occupied villages.

After the mission, we arranged an appointment with a phthisiologist at the infectious disease hospital, where we directed the person.

In conditions with no medical worker in the village, the destroyed dispensary building, hospitals that are 60 km away and no public transport, people do not go for preventive examinations. Therefore, it is important to carry out examinations and consultations on the spot, identify problems, and refer patients to the hospital when necessary.

This time, together with a family doctor and a neurologist, we accepted 122 people.

Kherson reg | Infectious disease doctor, psychologist

We had 65 patients. In two of the three de-occupied villages we visited, there is no medical worker (not even a nurse). Therefore, people wait for the arrival of doctors and are grateful for such help.

In addition to consultations, for this mission we:
— carried out an HIV test for those willing
— 2 children 2021 and 2023 year-born were examined before hepatitis vaccination
— provided first aid for people with hypertensive crises

Kherson region | Ultrasound

We did ultrasound examinations for 148 people in the de-occupied Kherson region.

And if we count the number of examinations, we will get more than 200. It is rare for a person to need one examination. Since it has been extremely difficult for residents of de-occupied villages to undergo an ultrasound scan for several years, health problems are accumulating, and they require more attention.

In one of the villages, we discovered a person with a kidney tumour and sent her to the hospital for surgery.

94 patients in the de-occupied Kherson region. Many patients had high blood pressure. We first discovered diabetes in a woman born in 1955. Also, a team of doctors visited a low-mobility 87-year-old grandmother at home who could not come to the outpatient clinic on her own.

Kherson region | Endocrinologist, neuropathologist

We had 138 patients in 4 de-occupied villages in the Kherson region. Among them were five visits to the homes of low-mobility people.

We had an endocrinologist and a neurologist with us. Many older adults stay in these territories, and people need such specialists.

There were many cases when patients took the wrong medicine, in the wrong dosage or for too long. This happens when people do not have the opportunity to reach the hospital and consult when necessary. Therefore, such visits by doctors are essential to monitor and adjust treatment.

Kherson reg | Ophthalmologist

We did examinations for 173 people in de-occupied villages of the Kherson region. Currently, people would have to go to big cities such as Mykolaiv or Kryvyi Rih to see an ophthalmologist. They are far away, and getting there without public transport is difficult.

Among the patients were both 12-year-old teenagers who have visual impairments and an 88-year-old grandmother, to whom the doctor recommended surgery for cataracts.
